Votes will be counted by machine in Raksu and Chaksu elections, says Home Affairs Advisor

Desk Report:

Votes will be counted with the help of machines in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RACSU) and Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CHACSU) elections, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. He said this after a meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday regarding the overall preparations and law and order situation surrounding these two student union elections.

It took three days to publish the results of the JACSU elections due to manual counting. When asked what the authorities of the two universities said about the method of counting votes in the RAKSSU and CHAKSU elections, the Home Affairs Advisor said, counting votes by machine does not take time.

They have discussed in their own cases, so that counting is done by machine.

Highlighting the issue of the DUCS and JACSU elections, the Home Affairs Advisor said, there are some experiences from watching these elections. I sat with university teachers to see how we can apply this in the upcoming national elections. They gave very good suggestions. These can be used in the future.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that since the elections of the two universities were conducted well, the main discussion was on how to conduct the upcoming elections, how to eliminate minor errors if any, and how to correct them in the future.

The Home Affairs Advisor also said that the university authorities have not expressed any concerns regarding the RAKSHU and CHAKSU elections. It is expected that the elections will be conducted very well. For this, he also sought the help of journalists.

At the news briefing, Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said, “There is enthusiasm and excitement surrounding the RAKSHU and CHAKSU elections. It is hoped that we will be able to conduct the elections well.”

The Education Advisor also said that for whatever reason, the elections of the universities have become a matter of national interest. Two more elections are going to be held. In that context, learning, good practices, which ones worked and which ones did not work, these are the issues that those who were at Dhaka University came to talk about. People from Jahangirnagar University could not come at short notice due to the inauguration ceremony.
