The White House has announced that the United States and Saudi Arabia have signed one of the largest defense deals in history. Under the deal, the United States will provide Saudi Arabia with advanced military equipment and technology worth about $142 billion.
The White House has called it “the largest defense sale in history.” Under the deal, more than a dozen U.S. defense companies will provide saudi arabia with cutting-edge military equipment and services.
As part of the deal, US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) attended a formal ceremony in Riyadh. The two leaders agreed to increase mutual cooperation in the military, energy, minerals and technology sectors.
In addition to the defense agreement, several other “transformative investment agreements” were signed, with a total value of nearly $600 billion, the White House said. These include several large-scale agreements in the technology, energy and mining sectors.
The signing ceremony attracted global interest with the presence of top executives from Google, Nvidia, Amazon, OpenAI, Tesla and Boeing.
In a brief speech, President Trump praised Crown Prince Salman’s leadership, saying, “The business relationship between our two countries has reached unprecedented heights.”
Analysts believe that through this agreement, the United States is taking its strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia to a new level, which could also affect the geopolitical balance in the Middle East.
