Desk Report:
Thalapathy Vijay has never faced such a big disaster before. He has retired from acting and entered the political arena. He has formed his own political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam. Vijay’s party is organizing rallies across Tamil Nadu before the 2026 assembly elections. So far, the party has held rallies, each of which has been crowded with supporters.
This picture was also seen at Vijay’s election rally held in Karure, Tamil Nadu last Saturday. However, the end did not end well. So far, 39 people have been reported dead in the horrific stampede; 17 of whom are women and 9 children. More than 150 people are hospitalized in critical condition. This terrible accident at Vijay’s political rally has shaken the whole of India.
Vijay expressed grief over this tragic accident. He has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the treatment of the injured.
Yesterday, he wrote on the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam X account, ‘My heart is filled with deep sorrow. I have no words to express the pain in my heart for the loss of our loved ones. This is an irreparable loss for us. Nevertheless, as a member of your family, I announce that Rs 20 lakh will be given to the families of each of those who have passed away, and Rs 2 lakh to those who are undergoing treatment for injuries. I know that this amount is not enough. Nevertheless, at this moment, my duty is to stand by my loved ones.’
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences after the accident. He announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the treatment of the injured. In the meantime, an inquiry commission has been formed. The DMK-led Tamil Nadu state government has strongly criticized Vijay. It has been alleged that the rally did not have the necessary arrangements. The organizers did not make proper arrangements for water and food. As a result, many people fainted in the heat in the crowd.
It is learned that more than 30,000 people gathered at Vijay’s rally on Saturday. Vijay was supposed to join the rally in Karur after the rally in Namakkal. But he was delayed by more than seven hours in reaching Karur. By then the crowd was out of control. As soon as Vijay’s speech began, the commotion increased.
Many people started suffering from breathing problems due to the excessive crowd and heat. Understanding the situation, Vijay stopped his speech. Water bottles were thrown from the bus specially prepared for his campaign. A section of the supporters pushed the crowd and fell while trying to get close to the bus, leading to a stampede.
