Desk Report:
Liton Das could not play the last two matches of the Asia Cup due to injury. That injury will not allow him to play in the T20 series against Afghanistan. Bangladesh was forced to make a change in the Asia Cup team.
Soumya Sarkar has been called up in place of Liton Das. The left-handed batsman last played a T20I against the West Indies in December last year. Regarding Liton’s injury, national team physio Bayezidul Islam Khan said, “He (Das) could not play the last two matches of the Asia Cup due to a side strain. The MRI scan showed that he has a grade-1 strain in the left abdominal muscle. He is now in the rehabilitation process and will not be able to play in the T20 series against Afghanistan. The medical team will continue to monitor his rehabilitation and progress.”
India and Pakistan will face off in Dubai today in the Asia Cup final. Even though Bangladesh’s Asia Cup is over, the entire team is in Dubai. Bangladesh will play three T20 matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah on October 2, 3 and 5. As usual, Zaker will lead the team in the absence of Liton.
