A person named Kirti Singh has filed a case in Rajasthan against Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone for cheating. The case also names the two Bollywood stars and six officials of a car manufacturer.
Kirti alleged that she bought a car from Hyundai in 2022. The car started having various mechanical problems after buying it. Kirti also informed the car manufacturer about the whole matter. But it did not help. At one point, she got annoyed and filed an FIR against six officials of the car manufacturer. Shah Rukh and Deepika are named in that FIR.
The reason why Shah Rukh and Deepika were named in this case is because they are the brand ambassadors of the company. They promoted the car. Kirti alleged that she bought the car mainly after seeing the advertisement done by Shah Rukh and Deepika.
According to a report by Indian media NDTV, brand ambassadors can also be held liable under Indian law if the product they promote is proven to be fraudulent or defective. Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has the power to impose fines on advertisers for misleading advertisements.
The matter was initially filed as a private complaint in CJM Court No. 2, Bharatpur. Following the court’s order, an FIR was registered at Mathura Gate police station. The case has been registered under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections. Bharatpur police have started an investigation into the matter.
