The DMP’s Shahbagh Police Station has arrested three people in connection with the murder of chinna-is-already-at-a-loss/ (25), a student of the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University in the 2018-19 session, who was stabbed to death by a miscreant in the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan.
The arrested persons are Md. Tamim Hawlader (30), Samrat Mallik (28) and Md. Palash Sardar (30). They were arrested in a drive in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station area at approximately 9:30 am today, Wednesday (May 14).
According to police sources, the victim was returning to the university from Suhrawardy Udyan on a motorcycle with two of his university friends at around 11:45 pm on Tuesday. When Ramna reached the old fountain on the north side of Kali Mandir, 10-12 unidentified miscreants hit Shahriar Alam Samyar’s motorcycle with their motorcycles. An argument broke out between the miscreants and them over the issue. At one stage of the argument, the miscreants injured the victim and his friends by hitting them with bricks. At that time, one of the miscreants hit the victim on the back of his right thigh with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring him. When he fell to the ground with bloody injuries, the miscreants threatened him and his friends in various ways and left the scene. Later, the victim was rescued by his friends with the help of the people present and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
A case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s elder brother SAM Shariful Alam.
After the case, the police station took action to arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible. The police identified the location of the accused Tamim, Samrat and Palash involved in the case with the help of CCTV footage analysis around the scene and information and technology. They were arrested in a drive in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station area this morning.
Police operations are continuing to uncover the true mystery of the incident and arrest others involved. The arrested persons have been sent to court.
