Recognizing Palestinian state means rewarding Hamas: Trump at UN

Desk Report:

US President Donald Trump has said that recognizing the state of Palestine is tantamount to rewarding Hamas. He said this in his speech at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (September 23, 2025).

Trump said, “As if to further encourage the conflict, some members of this organization (the United Nations) are trying to unilaterally recognize the state of Palestine. This would be a very big reward for the atrocities of Hamas terrorists. This would be a reward for Hamas for its terrible atrocities, including the events of October 7.”

The United Nations has witnessed a historic change almost two years after the start of the Gaza war. The heads of government of several countries who came to attend the General Assembly have announced their recognition of the state of Palestine.

Yesterday, in a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would recognize the state of Palestine. He said, “We must do everything in our power to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution.”

The European countries of Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco and Belgium also The recognition of the Palestinian state was announced. Earlier this week, Canada, Britain, Portugal and Australia also made similar announcements.

This recognition will boost the morale of the Palestinian people. However, analysts say that it is unlikely to have a major impact in reality. Because the United States is the most influential position against it after Israel.

In his speech to the United Nations, Trump called the move to recognize the Palestinian state by one country after another a “wrong message.” According to him, such a move will only encourage violence and harm the peace process.
