Desk Report:
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar was surprised when pictures of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appeared on the LED screen. At that time, officials of the Livestock Department, the organizer of the meeting, were in an embarrassing situation.
The incident took place today, Sunday, at the Rangpur Livestock and Dairy Development Project’s view-sharing meeting.
Advisor Farida Akhtar attended the meeting as the chief guest at the city’s RDRS auditorium. The picture was suddenly displayed at the meeting moderated by Livestock Officer and Project Coordinator Golam Rabbani.
After the meeting, Advisor Farida Akhtar told reporters, “I was told that it happened by mistake. They apologized. So I will say that I came to know about it by mistake.”
In response to another question, the advisor said, “This is actually quite an insult. After the blood of so many people, it is not acceptable to have their (Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) pictures. We don’t think fascism has just gone away.
Fascism has many forms, some of which may be reflected in different ways. When we sense it, there is no action taken. I will definitely take action in this regard.’
When asked, Rangpur Divisional Livestock Department Director Dr. Md. Abdul Hai Sarkar told Ajker Patrika, ‘The presentation did not include pictures of Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Hasina. The picture taken of the lab on one of the slides of the presentation was in the corner. It was not on the original slide.’
Officials and farmers from the Livestock Department of various districts of Rangpur Division were present at the meeting.
