One of the specialties of India now is fake news: Dr. Yunus
Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has denied allegations of persecution of Hindu minorities during the tenure of the interim government in Bangladesh. He said, “There is no Hindu-hating violence” in Bangladesh.
Rejecting allegations of persecution of Hindus, he said, “One of the specialties of India now is fake news.”
The principal advisor said these things in an interview with Mehdi Hassan, a journalist of the new media outlet GTO, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, USA. The interview was published by GTO on Monday.
Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in the face of a mass uprising in 2024. Then Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus became the head of the interim government.
Regarding the decision made by the people to choose him as the head of the interim government, Professor Yunus said, “I was surprised.” He accepted it despite his reluctance. At that time, he told the protesters, “If you can give up this much, I will change my decision.”
Professor Yunus spoke about some other issues in the interview. These included the rationale for delaying the national elections, the Rohingya crisis, and the ban on Awami League activities.
