Desk Report
The government has banned all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliates and fraternal organizations. The notification in this regard was issued by the Political Wing of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (May 12).
The notification said that while in power from 2009 to August 5, 2024, the Awami League and its affiliates and affiliates established a reign of terror in the country through various human rights violations, disappearances, murders, torture and other terrorist activities. Even after being ousted from power in the face of a mass uprising by students and the public in August 2024, the party has been involved in various anti-state and terrorist activities at home and abroad.
It further stated that these activities are likely to deteriorate the law and order situation in the country, obstruct the judicial process and create fear in the public mind. As a result, by virtue of the powers conferred under the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 and the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, all types of political, organizational, propaganda, processions, meetings, gatherings, media and social media campaigns of the Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliates, affiliates and fraternal organizations are immediately banned.
The notification said that this ban will remain in force until the trial is completed at the International Crimes Tribunal.
