‘Unrest was created in the hills based on an allegation of rape. But in the end, it was seen that no signs of rape were identified. The allies of neighboring countries and fascists had disturbed the hills.’
This was the comment made by Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The advisor told reporters after the meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee held at the Home Ministry this Sunday morning.
The Home Affairs Advisor said, ‘In the rape incident, which has caused so much commotion, no signs of rape were found in the medical report. With the cooperation of the army and other law enforcement forces, as well as the general public (Hillies and Bengalis) of the hills, we were able to deal with this incident fairly and beautifully. The blockade and Section 144 have already been withdrawn in the hill areas.’
Earlier, an allegation of gang rape of a Marma teenager was raised in Khagrachari. In protest against the incident, a blockade program was announced in three districts under the banner of an organization called Jumma Chhatra-Janta. When tension spread over this, the local administration imposed Section 144 in Khagrachhari district. However, when the conflict broke out in the meantime, three people were killed in firing by law enforcement agencies. However, the doctors in charge mentioned on October 1 that no signs of rape were found in the medical examination report.
Three doctors—Jaya Chakma, Mosharraf Hossain and Nahida Akhtar—were in charge of the rape examination. Jaya Chakma, a doctor and gynecologist at Khagrachhari Modern Sadar Hospital, who led the group, told the media on October 1, “We have submitted the report to the medical department. We have done all kinds of tests, but in fact we did not find any signs of rape. All 10 indicators of the evidence test came back normal.”
According to sources from the doctors concerned, all 10 indicators of the rape examination in the report submitted to the civil surgeon are normal. This means there is no evidence of rape.
