News of ‘Indian citizen push-in’ in Brahmanbaria, BGB and locals on alert at the border late at night

Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols in the Nalgariya and Noabadi areas of Singharbil Union on the Indian border in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria on Thursday night due to the fear of push-ins by Indian citizens. Meanwhile, local mosques were also miked at night on the news of push-ins. Later, many locals went and took up positions on the border.

It is learnt that around 150 Indian nationals were gathered near the gate of Agartala airport in the Indian state of Tripura, prompting the BGB to take three times more precautions than usual. Patrolling along the border was intensified throughout the night.

Several locals, including Anis Mia and Fazlul Haque, said that the increased patrolling activity of the BGB had spread anxiety among the villagers in the border area. Later, several local mosques issued a call to the locals to be alert through microphones.

National Citizens Party (NCP) Joint Chief Organizer Md. Ataullah, in a message on social media Facebook around 3:30 am, called on the “residents of Singarbil Union of Bijoynagar Upazila” to move to the Indian border with whatever they have. He also requested the BGB for assistance.

The incident took place on Thursday midnight. Immediately after the incident, a video clip of the incident went viral on social media, Facebook, which further increased the panic. However, the BGB said that no infiltration had taken place.

Confirming the matter, Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commander of the 25th BGB Battalion, said, “Currently, due to the overall situation in the country, we are on the highest alert in the border area. Based on secret information, patrols in the area were strengthened with advance preparations due to the fear of push-in by Indian citizens.”
