Neighboring countries may spread fake news around Durga Puja: Home Affairs Advisor

Desk Report:

Home Affairs Advisor Lt. J. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that neighboring countries may spread provocative and false news centered on the upcoming Durga Puja. He made these comments to reporters after a meeting with all the Deputy Commissioners of Chittagong Division, law enforcement agencies and officials of various organizations at the Chittagong Circuit House on Wednesday (September 24) afternoon.

The Home Affairs Advisor said, “Initially, our neighboring countries spread a lot of contradictory news. You countered it. They could not benefit from your countering and revealing the truth. It has reduced a lot now. But in the future, they will start spreading rumors again on the occasion of the Puja. I request you to do the same role you played before. In this way, the people will get the true news.” At this time, the advisor said that legal action will be taken against anyone who spreads provocative propaganda.

The Home Affairs Advisor commented that if the people are election-oriented and there is unity among political parties, no one will be able to stop the elections.

The advisor said, ‘Elections do not only depend on law enforcement. Elections depend on the people. If the people are election-oriented, no one can stop the election. Then there are political parties. Elections are a joint effort of everyone. Above all, there are you (the media).’

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the army, navy and air force will be in the field surrounding the election.

The home affairs advisor said, ‘There are 30,000 army personnel in the field now. There will be about one lakh in the election. There will be navy and air force. We have police, BGB, RAB, Ansar Coast Guard, everyone will work in the election.’

Regarding the recovery of looted weapons, the home affairs advisor said, the police are working to recover looted weapons. Some weapons are left outside. Chittagong geographically has mountains, sea and plains, which are not in other areas. That is why it is difficult to conduct operations here. More weapons will be recovered before the election. Police training for the election has already begun.

This time Durga Puja will be held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere, the Home Affairs Advisor said. He said, “There is no major problem anywhere. However, there are divisions among those who are celebrating the puja. Some say two divisions, some say three divisions. It is a religious event. I think there will be no obstacle to celebrating such a festival. Since it is a pious work. No one will create any obstacle for this pious work. We hope so.”

‎Regarding the border situation, the Home Affairs Advisor said that although various armed groups of Myanmar are active on the border, it will not have any impact on the national elections. Law enforcement agencies are active to prevent drugs from coming from Myanmar.
