NCP leaders and workers ‘misbehave’ with journalists, boycott Akhtar-Zara’s press conference

Desk Report:

Journalists have boycotted a press conference of NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara, alleging that some leaders and activists of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) misbehaved with journalists. The incident took place at around 9:45 am today (October 2) at the VIP gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara were not at the scene at the time. Later, the NCP media cell expressed its regret in a statement.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, left Dhaka for New York on September 22 to attend the United Nations session. Among his entourage were NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara. The chief advisor and his entourage reached Dhaka around 9 am on Thursday after a 9-day visit to New York.

After reaching Dhaka, Akhtar-Zara were scheduled to hold a press conference at the airport. A journalist present at the spot said that Tarique Rahman’s foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir was talking to reporters at the VIP gate. At that time, some NCP leaders and activists were standing next to him with flowers for Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara.

During Humayun Kabir’s speech, NCP leaders and activists started shouting slogans like ‘Inquilab Inquilab, Zindabad Zindabad’ in a loud voice. As the journalists had difficulty hearing Humayun Kabir’s words, they (the journalists) requested the NCP leaders and activists not to shout slogans. Then some NCP leaders and activists misbehaved with some journalists. Due to this, the journalists announced to boycott the press conference of NCP leaders Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara at the airport.
