Desk Report:
Mushfiqur Rahim made his Test debut against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2005. The wicketkeeper-batsman is on the verge of playing his 100th Test match. He has played 98 matches in plain clothes so far. If all goes well, the former captain of the Bangladesh team will play his 100th Test match against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladesh will play two Tests and three T20Is against Ireland at home in November-December. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today released the schedule for the series against the European team.
Bangladesh and Ireland will face each other in the first Test of the series on November 11. The venue is Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. They will play the second and final Test match on November 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The BCB has prepared the schedule in this way, mainly considering Mushfiqur’s 100th Test. The country’s highest cricket governing body wants Mushfiqur to play his 100th Test in the ‘Home of Cricket’. This is what a BCB source told Fast Bangla newspaper.
The Bangladesh-Ireland T20 series will start on November 27. The second match of the short-over cricket will be played on November 29. The two teams will play the last T20 of the series on December 2. All the matches will be played at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium.
Before that, the Ireland team will set foot in Bangladesh on November 6. They will play their first Test after 4 consecutive days of practice.
After the Asia Cup, Bangladesh is currently playing a 3-match T20 series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates. Zaker Ali Anik’s team has already won the series by winning the first 2 matches. If they win the last T20, Phil Simmons’ team will have the taste of whitewashing the Afghans on foreign soil for the first time. After that, Bangladesh will return home and play against Ireland with full confidence.
