Desk Report:
The trial of Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister ousted in the student uprising and accused of crimes against humanity, will be ‘in a manner that all the world’s standard laws will accept it,’ said Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (northern region) of the National Citizens Party (NCP).
He made this comment at a discussion meeting at the Econo Kumin Center around 6 pm local time on Sunday, Japan. The meeting was organized by the NCP Diaspora Alliance.
Sarjis said, ‘The trial of the murderer Hasina will be in a manner that all the world’s standards and laws will accept as a trial. Therefore, we will not try the murderer Hasina for show. Just like Hasina has extrajudicially murdered Bangladeshi scholars, ulama, and politicians just to fulfill her own desires.’
Referring to the International Crimes Tribunal, Sarjis said, ‘This ICT tribunal does not want to try to fulfill your or my desires. That murderer Hasina, who ordered the killing of thousands of students and the public, wants to ensure that Hasina is hanged after completing the judicial process properly.’
At the meeting, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said, the blood of Muslims was excluded from the 1971 constitution. For the past 15 years, if someone has a beard on their face, a cap on their head, or clothes below their ankles, it has been legal to kill them on the streets as terrorists. This was India’s agenda. There was a force in India in Bangladesh, through which this work was done. That force was the Awami League.
Nasiruddin said, ‘The constitution was the basis of the authoritarian system that has been implemented in Bangladesh. For this, our constitution must be changed.’
At the meeting, expatriates living in Japan demanded the launch of Bangladesh Biman’s ‘Japan to Bangladesh’ direct flight and the right to vote for expatriates from the next election. They also demanded that arrangements be made to easily repatriate the bodies of Bangladeshis who died in Japan.
The NCP leaders present at the event assured that they would work to fulfill these demands.
The event was chaired by Zubair Sardar, Asia representative of the NCP Diaspora Alliance, and other speakers included Joint Chief Coordinator Mahbub Alam, Osaka representative of the Alliance Miraj, Mainul, Sourav, Sajjad, and others.
