Desk Report:

There have been allegations of gang rape of a Marma teenager in Khagrachari. However, the doctors in charge have stated that no evidence of rape was found in the medical examination report.

The three doctors in charge of the rape examination are Jaya Chakma, Mosharraf Hossain and Nahida Akhtar.

Jaya Chakma, a doctor and gynecologist at Khagrachari Modern Sadar Hospital, who led the team, said, “We have submitted the report to the medical office. We have done all kinds of tests, but in fact we did not find any evidence of rape. All 10 indicators of the test results came back normal.”

According to sources from the doctors concerned, all 10 indicators of the rape test in the report submitted to the civil surgeon are normal. This means that there is no evidence of rape.

Meanwhile, protests and tension are ongoing in Khagrachari over the rape allegations against the Marma schoolgirl.

The girl was allegedly gang-raped on her way back from private school at 9 pm on September 24. Her relatives rescued her unconscious from a field around 11 pm that day. She was admitted to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital that night. She left the hospital the next day, Wednesday. Police arrested a man named Shayan Shil in this incident.

After the rape allegations were raised, a blockade was called in Khagrachhari on Saturday under the banner of Jumma Chhatra-Janta in protest. The organization called for a blockade in three hill districts from the next day. Amid the blockade, Ramesu Bazar in Guimara, Khagrachhari, turned into a battlefield with protests and violence on Sunday. There was a clash between the law enforcement forces and the blockaders. A local party was with the law enforcement forces. Three people died in the shooting. All three of them were from the hill community. At least 20 people, including an army major, were injured. About fifty houses and about 40 shops were set on fire in the Ramesu Bazar area.
