Desk Report:
The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has strengthened. It has turned from a clear low pressure area into a depression. Due to the influence of this low pressure area, heavy rain is falling across the country due to the active monsoon winds and it is expected to rain for two more days, the Meteorological Department said. And due to the rough sea, the country’s seaports have been asked to display warning signal number 3.
In a special warning issued by the Meteorological Department on Thursday, it was said that the low pressure area located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas has moved northwestwards and intensified. It has turned into a deep depression in the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent north-west Bay of Bengal. It was located 875 km southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 830 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 735 km southwest of Mongla Seaport and 740 km southwest of Payra Seaport at 6 am today. It may move further north and northwestwards.
The Meteorological Department further said that due to the influence of the depression, there is an excess of air pressure variation in the North Bay of Bengal area. Gusty or squally winds may blow over the North Bay of Bengal, coastal areas and seaports of Bangladesh. The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the depression is 50 kmph, increasing to 60 kmph in the form of gusty or squally winds. The sea is rough in the area near the deep depression.
Due to the gusty winds, the seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to display local warning signal number 3. In addition, fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal have been asked to move carefully near the coast until further orders, so that they can go to safe shelter at short notice.
Meanwhile, like yesterday, the sky in the capital Dhaka is cloudy this morning. According to the Meteorological Department, Dhaka and its surrounding areas may remain cloudy today.
