KUET teachers have not returned to classes for 5 days, fear of session jam

Desk Report

Teachers at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have not returned to classes for five consecutive working days. This has brought academic activities to a standstill and there is a fear of a long session jam. Even though the campus has reopened after a long closure of almost two and a half months, students are in trouble as teachers have not joined classes. There is also concern among parents.

According to university sources, the teachers’ association has given a seven-day ultimatum to refrain from classes and administrative work. During this period, they have demanded a fair investigation and trial of the attacks on teachers, including the February 18 incident. Today, Monday, was the fifth day of the ultimatum. The teachers have warned that they will refrain from all types of administrative work from next Thursday if their demands are not met.

Although the students returned to the hall on May 4 in the hope of starting classes, classes have not started yet. Despite an open letter of apology from the students, the teachers are still adamant on their position.

KUET Teachers’ Association President Professor Dr. Md. Sahidul Islam said, “The decision of the Teachers’ Association on May 5 has been communicated to the KUET administration. If the demands are not implemented within seven working days, we will also withdraw from the administrative activities.”
