After nearly 50 hours of voting and counting, the results of the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JACSU) elections have been announced. Chief Election Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman announced the results of the hall and central student union elections on Saturday afternoon.
Abdur Rashid Jitu, a candidate of the ‘Independent Student Union’ panel, was elected as the vice president (VP). And the Shibir-backed ‘Integrated Student Union’ won most of the top positions, including General Secretary (GS) Mazharul Islam.
Abdur Rashid Jitu received 3,324 votes for the VP post. His nearest rival, Arif Ullah of the Shibir-backed Integrated Student Union, received 2,379 votes.
Mazharul Islam of the Shibir-backed Integrated Student Union was elected as the GS post with 3,930 votes. His nearest rival for this post, Abu Touhid Siam of the Democratic Student Union-backed Oikya Forum, received 1,238 votes.
Earlier, the results of 21 halls of parliament were announced one by one. The winners were:
