Protesters demanding the appointment of Ishraq Hossain as mayor have locked all the gates of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters, Nagar Bhaban. All services and activities of the local government department at the Dhaka South City Corporation and Nagar Bhaban have been suspended. The incident occurred on the third day of the protest today, Saturday.
Talking to officials and employees of Dhaka South City Corporation, it was learned that all entrances have been locked since Friday night. As a result, the service activities of Nagar Bhaban are closed today, Saturday. Due to the locking of the main gate, other vehicles including the City Corporation’s ambulance are not able to enter inside.
Around 3:30 pm, a man named Fardeen Hasan came to collect his certificate from Nazim Uddin Road. He had to go back as the service was suspended. Md. Salam, a lift operator at Nagar Bhaban, said, “I came in the morning. I am sitting outside as the office is closed. My duty time is till 5 pm. When will I come? I asked the security personnel. They could not say when the office will open.’
Earlier, the protesters had locked the gate on Thursday as well. However, the lock was opened in the afternoon.
