Desk Report:
Sadiq Agro Chairman Imran Hossain, who was discussed in the goat case, has now been shown arrested in a murder case of the anti-discrimination movement. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam ordered his arrest on Monday.
He was produced in court from jail. The investigation officer of the case, Mohammadpur Police Station SI Md. Nazmul Islam, applied to be shown arrested in the murder case of auto-rickshaw driver Md. Roni in the Mohammadpur Police Station area. The court granted the application and ordered him to be shown arrested in the case and sent to jail.
The case alleges that during the anti-discrimination movement on July 19 last year, auto-rickshaw driver Md. Roni was shot in front of a primary school on Nurjahan Road in Mohammadpur. Later, he was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Roni’s mother filed a murder case in this incident at Mohammadpur Police Station.
Earlier, CID arrested him on March 3. That day, CID’s Financial Crime Organized Sub-Inspector Jonal Hossain filed a case at Mohammadpur Police Station on charges of money laundering. The next day, he was sent to jail.
It is worth noting that a goat from Sadiq Agro was in the news during Eid-ul-Azha in 2024. Various scandals came out about that goat, which was bought for 15 lakh taka. Criticism started across the country. That year, on Eid-ul-Adha, Mushfiqur Rahman alias Ifat, son of the then NBR member Matiur Rahman, bought a ‘high-breed’ goat for 15 lakh taka (initial price) from Imran’s Sadiq Agro and went viral on social media. In this incident, the corruption of Matiur Rahman and his family came to the fore. Matiur Rahman is currently in jail.
