Nurjahan Begum, advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the interim government, has gone to Singapore for a three-day personal visit. It is learned that she will also undergo treatment there.
A notification signed by Deputy Secretary (Administration-1) of the Health Services Department, Sujit Debnath, informed about the health advisor’s foreign trip. The notification said that Nurjahan Begum will visit Singapore from September 15 to 17 (excluding transit time). The visit will be considered personal and the advisor will be accompanied by her son Abrar Zaman. She will bear all the expenses herself.
A source in the ministry said that Nurjahan Begum regularly undergoes treatment in Singapore. She is suffering from complications of thyroid cancer. She usually goes to Singapore for follow-up tests and necessary treatment at various stages of her treatment. She left the country for Singapore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday night.
An official of the ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “Even before becoming an advisor, he used to regularly seek treatment in Singapore. Even after assuming office, he continues to go for treatment in the same way. This visit is also completely personal. He has a follow-up appointment with his doctor in Singapore.”
It is worth noting that he took charge as an advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the interim government on August 8, 2024.
