Government closely monitoring Shahidul Alam’s condition and security: Chief Advisor
The government is closely monitoring the condition and safety of those participating in the Gaza-bound flotilla, especially world-renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam, said Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
In a statement on Saturday, the Principal Advisor said, Shahidul Alam is participating in this operation with the same spirit and courage that he showed during his 107-day imprisonment for speaking out against injustice during the Hasina government in 2018. He is a shining symbol of Bangladesh’s steadfast spirit today.
Quoting his statement at the UN General Assembly last month, Professor Yunus said, “Indifference to the suffering and oppression of others is destroying the progress we have achieved over decades of hard work.”
He added, “We are seeing the most tragic picture of this in Gaza. Children are dying prematurely from hunger. Civilians are being killed indiscriminately. An entire town, including hospitals and schools, is being wiped out.
“We stand with Shahidul Alam, we stand with Gaza—now and forever,” he said.
