Goat-smuggling case: Matiur, wife remanded in corruption case

Former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman, who was in the news for the ‘Ucchabanshiya goat case’, and his wife Laila Kaniz, former chairman of Narsingdi’s Raipura Upazila Parishad, have been ordered to be remanded for one day in a corruption case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam issued the order on Sunday (September 14).

The Matiur couple were produced in court from jail today in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of acquiring illegal wealth. The investigation officer of the case, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar, applied for their three-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted them one-day remand.

ACC Special Public Prosecutor Tariqul Islam confirmed the remand to Ajker Patika.

The ACC filed a case against Farzana Rahman, the daughter of the Matiur-Kaniz couple, on January 6, alleging that she concealed information worth Tk 2.45 crore and acquired illegal assets worth more than Tk 53.41 crore. Matiur was made an accessory accused in the case.
