Global unity and solidarity are essential to address the climate crisis: Rizwana Hassan

Desk Reports :

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, has said that knowledge-based initiatives and global unity and solidarity are essential to address the climate crisis. She said, “We have limited time and resources, so we need to take joint action. This crisis is not just a question of survival, but also the security of future generations and the existence of many nations.”

She said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Biophilia: Reconnecting People, Climate and Culture’ program organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Gulshan, the capital, on Tuesday.

Rizwana Hasan said, “Bangladesh is at serious risk of climate change due to its geographical location and as a delta country. Our people are bravely facing the disaster. But due to the lack of adequate mitigation activities and international support, the capacity is reaching the limit. The necessary financing and technical assistance for adaptation are still not available at the expected level.’
Calling on the country’s development partners, the advisor said, ‘We need to reconsider aid policies and provide more effective assistance to vulnerable countries. No matter how big the crisis, we will move forward with development partners by embracing culture and tradition as a strength and finding solutions.’

Charge of Affairs of the Embassy of Switzerland, Corinne Henchoz Pignani, Representative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Valentin Achacho, and Laboni Akhter, a refugee from Bagerhat, also spoke at the event.
