Fox News host threatens to bomb UN headquarters

Desk Report:

US President Donald Trump has been the victim of a disturbance during the United Nations General Assembly session. Angered by this, Fox News host Jesse Waters threatened to bomb the UN headquarters. However, Waters later apologized personally for the comment.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that they were “surprised” by Fox News host Jesse Waters’ comment. He said, “For technical reasons, there was a problem with President Trump’s escalator and teleprompter. Therefore, the threat to bomb the UN headquarters is disappointing.”

According to a Reuters report, Jesse Waters made this comment on a Fox News program last Tuesday. The UN informed Fox News about the matter after his comment. Jesse Waters then contacted Melissa Fleming, the UN’s global communications chief, to apologize. However, Fox News has not yet made any official response to the matter.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters, “It is not funny to talk about bombing, gassing or destroying this building. This kind of language is unacceptable.”

Incidentally, after attending the UN session, Trump complained about the escalators being blocked and the teleprompter not working. This angered presenter Jesse Waters. He raised this issue on a Fox News program and said, “We should either leave the UN or bomb it. Or gas it… It needs to be destroyed.”

However, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric issued a statement explaining the elevator being blocked and the teleprompter not working. In it, he said, “According to the data from the escalator’s central processing unit, it was shown that a safety feature of the ‘comb step’ at the top of the escalator was activated and it stopped. He added that Trump’s videographer was walking backwards on the escalator to better capture the president’s arrival with First Lady Melania Trump. That’s when the mishap occurred.

Dujarric said the videographer may have inadvertently activated the safety system. The safety system is designed to prevent people or objects from inadvertently getting caught in the gear or being dragged by it.

A UN official said the White House was using its own teleprompter. After Trump finished speaking, UN General Assembly President Annaleena Baerbock said the UN teleprompters were working properly.
