Forcibly cutting an old man’s hair is illegal and a clear violation of human rights – Asaksa takes on viral video
The Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed deep concern over the incident of forcibly cutting off the hair and hair of an elderly man in public. The human rights organization has reacted by calling such behavior ‘illegal and a clear violation of human rights’ and ‘a direct attack on the dignity of the individual.’
In a statement on Thursday, ASK said that a video recently circulated on social media showed some people forcibly cutting off the hair and hair of a pedestrian in public. Such behavior is completely inhuman, illegal and a clear violation of the constitution and human rights.
ASK said that Article 31 of the Constitution of Bangladesh gives every citizen the right to live a dignified life under the protection of the law. Article 32 guarantees life and personal liberty and Article 35 prohibits cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment towards anyone.
The human rights organization said that forcibly cutting off hair in public is not only a violation of the victim’s fundamental rights and personal freedom, but also a direct attack on his dignity. Such incidents are creating an atmosphere of fear, panic and insecurity in the society.
Stating that such incidents are against the rule of law and human rights in Bangladesh, the statement of ASK said that it is necessary to quickly identify the responsible persons and take legal action. At the same time, the state must ensure that no other citizen is subjected to such humiliating and illegal behavior in the future.
