It is known from the allegations in the case that on December 12, 2019, the High Court had scheduled a bail hearing for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable case. The previous day, on December 11, BNP leaders and activists, including the accused, set fire to a motorcycle in the area adjacent to the High Court Mazar Gate of Shahbagh Police Station and caused damage. They tried to create havoc in the area.
In this incident, Shahbagh Police Station SI Idris Ali filed a case as the plaintiff. After investigating the case, the investigating officer submitted a final report to the court on May 10 this year, recommending the acquittal of 70 people including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, BNP leaders and activists are being acquitted in one case after another during the current interim government.
