Desk Report:
Five leaders of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) have been nominated as members of the university’s senate. They are Vice President (VP) Abu Sadiq Kayem, General Secretary (GS) SM Farhad, Associate General Secretary (AGS) Mohiuddin Khan, Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah and Member Sabikun Nahar Tamanna.
This decision was taken at the first meeting of DUCSU’s newly elected Executive Council held at the university’s administrative building this Sunday morning. DUCSU President and University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan presided over the meeting.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem said, “We are not leaders, we are representatives. Our goal is that students can freely share any problem with us. Forgetting the calculation of victory or defeat, we all want to work together for the welfare of students.”
GS SM Farhad said, “Although we all come from different political ideologies, the interests of students will now be our only commitment.” Department-wise short-term and long-term plans will be formulated soon.’
Farhad further said that although there is a separate forum for residential students, non-resident students often face problems. Therefore, the transport secretary has been included in the senate.
It was informed in the meeting that the complete work plan of DUCSU will be published this month. In addition, the names of the senate members will be published in the gazette.
