DUCSU winners will rise above party identity and become representatives of the student community, hopes Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman has expressed hope that the winners of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections will rise above party affiliation and serve as representatives of the student community.

He expressed such hope in a statement sent from Jamaat’s propaganda department on Wednesday.

In a statement, Shafiqur Rahman said, “On September 9, the central student union elections of Dhaka University, the country’s highest university, were held. The student community of Dhaka University participated in the elections peacefully in a festive atmosphere. The candidates for the elections made the elections competitive by participating in the vote.”

“I sincerely thank all those who were elected in this election. I hope they will rise above their party affiliation and fulfill their responsibilities as representatives of the student community.”

The Jamaat Ameer also said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the interim government, university authorities, law enforcement agencies, journalists and everyone involved in the elections for conducting the elections in a fair, impartial, acceptable and peaceful environment at this important time for the nation.”

In the statement, he expressed his condolences to the family and loved ones of journalist Tariqul Islam Shibli, who died while serving in the DUCSU elections.
