Dhaka University campus has been tense since the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samyer. Anti-terrorism students held a protest rally for the second day at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on Thursday (May 15) afternoon. Students from various departments of the university joined the rally.

At that time, they kept raising slogans like ‘We want justice, we want equality in killing’, ‘Why are there dead bodies on campus, we want an answer from the proctor’, ‘Safe campus, students’ rights’, ‘We want justice, we want safety’, ‘Proctor is not sanda, sanda sanda’ etc.

Students from various departments and faculties of the university spoke at the rally. Mustakim, a student of the economics department, said, ‘We condemn the group that gave the protocol to the VC and the proctor.’

Rashequzzaman Jewel, a student of the Department of Television, Film and Photography, said that even after August 5, various accidents that occurred on the campus were due to the irresponsibility of the VC Proctor. But to avoid responsibility, they said, “All those areas are not under our jurisdiction. Our brother Samya was brutally murdered on May 13. However, responsibility was avoided by saying that it was not under the jurisdiction of the VC. This VC and Proctor must take responsibility for the murder and they must resign immediately taking this responsibility.”

Law faculty student Zahidul Islam Riyad said, “Along with Samya Bhai’s killers, we also identify as terrorists those groups who are trying to make Samya Bhai’s murder controversial in various ways and are trying to tarnish the character of the deceased Samya Bhai.”

Japanese Studies department student Abidur Rahman Mishu said, “This university administration has already started to de-zone Samya’s murder. Samya’s murder did not take place in the university. Therefore, the university has no responsibility. But the reality is, Tofazzal was murdered in this university. Still, a group is saying that this administration is a basil leaf washed in milk.”

The students, who had finished their protest rally in front of Aparajeyo Bangla, marched towards Shahbagh police station in a procession. After the rally, it was announced that doa mahfils would be organized in all the halls of the university on Friday after Juma.

Meanwhile, when a delegation of protesters met the on-duty OC at Shahbagh police station and asked about the progress of the case, he spoke to them and assured them. He said that they have already received several CCTV footages and three teams are working on this case. For now, all the information cannot be disclosed due to technical reasons. He assured that he will hold a press briefing in the next 2-3 days and inform them about the progress of the case.
