This year, September has surpassed all other months in terms of dengue cases and deaths in the country. This month, 15,866 patients were admitted to hospitals and 76 died. In August, 39 people died of dengue. That is, the number of dengue deaths in September has doubled compared to August.
The Directorate General of Health Services released updated information on Tuesday (September 30) afternoon.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that in the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday Monday to 8 am today Tuesday), 556 more patients infected with dengue have been admitted to hospitals. Three more people have died from this mosquito-borne disease. A total of 47,342 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals till September 30 this year. Of them, 198 have died.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the second highest number of 10,684 patients were admitted to hospitals in July this year. In January, 1,161 people were admitted, in February 374, in March 336, in April 701, in May 1,773, in June 5,951 and in August 10,496 patients were admitted.
July is also in second place this year in terms of the number of dengue deaths. 41 people died of dengue this month. 10 people died of dengue in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, 3 in May, 19 in June and 39 in August. However, there were no deaths from this disease in March.
According to today’s information from the Directorate General of Health, all three of the deceased in the last one day were residents of Barisal division. One of them was under treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, one at Amtoli Upazila Health Complex in Barguna and one at Barguna 250-bed hospital. The three deceased were men and their ages were 38, 68 and 33 years respectively.
Of the new patients admitted in the last 24 hours, 214 were from the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. Apart from this, 79 patients have been admitted outside the capital in Dhaka division, 28 in Mymensingh division (outside the City Corporation), 70 in Chittagong division (outside the City Corporation), 25 in Rajshahi division (outside the City Corporation), 137 in Barisal division (outside the City Corporation) and 3 in Sylhet division (outside the City Corporation).
Currently, 2,348 patients are undergoing treatment for dengue in various hospitals in the country. Of these, 773 are in various hospitals in the capital and 1,575 are in hospitals outside the capital.
It is worth noting that in 2023, a maximum of 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals in Bangladesh and 1,705 died. In 2024, 1,121 patients were admitted to hospitals, 62,382 in 2022, 28,429 in 2021, 1,405 in 2020 and 1,1354 in 2019.
