Corruption in plot allocation: 3 more people testify in three cases involving Hasina, Rehana, Tulip

Three officials of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartik (RAJUK) testified on Thursday (August 28) in three cases filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and her sister’s three children, including others, on charges of corruption in the allocation of three plots of 10 kathas each in the Purbachal New City project. They testified at Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-4.

These three witnesses are RAJUK Deputy Director (Land) Mahbubar Rahman, Assistant Director Asim Shil and Ullas Chowdhury. According to court sources, they each testified in three cases. After taking their testimonies, Judge Rabiul Islam set September 4 as the next date for taking testimonies, said Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Special Public Prosecutor Tariqul Islam.

The taking of testimonies in these three cases began on August 13. On that day, the plaintiffs in these three cases, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin, Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya and SM Rashedul Hasan, testified respectively.

Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter British MP Tulip Siddique, Azmina Siddique and son Radwan Mujib Siddique (Bobby) and others have been made accused in these three cases. In one of these cases, 17 people including Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana and Tulip Siddique are accused, in another case 18 people including Sheikh Hasina, Azmina Siddique and in the other case 18 people including Sheikh Hasina and Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby are accused. Sheikh Hasina and some officials of RAJUK are accused in all three cases. Since they are absconding, the testimony is being taken in their absence.
The same court had framed charges against Sheikh Hasina and others in these cases on July 31 and ordered the start of the trial. Testimony in three cases filed against Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul and others on charges of irregularities and corruption in the allocation of three other 10-katha plots in Purbachal are being taken at Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-5.

The charge sheet in the case states that while holding the highest position in the government, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family abused the power vested in them. Despite not being eligible for the allocation, six plots of 10 kathas each on Road No. 203, Sector No. 27 of the Purbachal Housing Project were allotted for dishonest purposes. After the investigation, the ACC filed these six cases on January 12, 13 and 14. Charge sheets were filed in the court in the six cases on March 25.

The charge sheet names 29 people, including Sheikh Hasina and her family members, as accused. Arrest warrants have already been issued against each of them.
