Chief advisor, accompanied by four politicians, leaves for New York tonight
The chief advisor to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will leave Dhaka for New York, the United States, on Sunday night to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The chief advisor will be accompanied by four political leaders on the trip. They are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir.
The chief advisor’s senior assistant press secretary, Faiz Ahmed, confirmed this information.
According to the tour schedule, he will arrive in New York on September 22 and address the General Assembly session on September 26. The chief advisor is scheduled to return to the country on October 2.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain told reporters that the chief advisor will present to world leaders the reforms carried out in the country over the past year and the commitment to establish a truly democratic state system through the upcoming national elections.
In addition, the chief advisor will also participate in a high-level meeting titled ‘High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar’ chaired by the President of the United Nations General Assembly on September 30.
