Chandpur’s Doabhanga area in Shahrasti Upazila has come under the spotlight following allegations of large-scale irregularities in the recruitment of teachers at Chandpur Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital.

According to the complaint, at least 10 individuals were appointed as lecturers despite failing to meet key requirements such as age limit, academic qualifications, and valid medical registration. Some of the accused even secured lecturer positions while still being students themselves, while others were appointed after crossing the maximum age limit or before receiving their professional registration certificates.
Names mentioned in the complaint include Dr. Abdul Baset, Dr. Bilkis Akhter, Dr. Farid Ahmed, Dr. Nazveen Sultana, Dr. Fatema Akhter, Dr. Mohammad Yasin, among others.
The issue first came to light on March 16, 2025, when college lecturer Dr. Md. Manzur Hossain lodged a written complaint with the Health Education and Family Welfare Department. Following this, the Ministry’s Medical Education-2 Branch instructed the Chandpur Deputy Commissioner and other relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
In response, the Shahrasti Upazila administration formed a probe committee, appointing Upazila ICT Officer Md. Shahjahan as the investigation officer. The accused teachers have been directed to appear with their documents for verification.
However, months after the complaint, the investigation is yet to be finalized.
“The probe is still ongoing, and the report will be submitted soon,” said Investigation Officer Shahjahan.
Meanwhile, complainant Dr. Manzur expressed frustration:
“Even after several months, no report has been submitted. This delay raises further questions,” he said.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Shahnaz Hossain said she was not yet fully aware of the case but assured that details would be collected soon.
The allegations are not new. Earlier in 2022, concerns over irregularities and absentee teachers were raised at a college management committee meeting. A three-member committee was formed at the time, which submitted a report to the UNO in March 2023. That report alleged that several teachers had been drawing salaries and allowances despite not taking classes for long periods.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is currently reviewing the matter. Officials have indicated that, if proven, the irregular appointments may be canceled and further legal action taken against those involved.
