BNP will soon give ‘green signal’ to one candidate in each seat: Salahuddin

BNP is selecting candidates ahead of the 13th National Assembly elections, said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party’s standing committee.

He said this while talking to reporters at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Friday.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, “BNP is a large democratic and liberal political party. We have multiple qualified candidates in each seat. There are about 10 to 12 candidates in many seats. Now we are systematically selecting candidates. Soon, we will give the green signal to a single candidate based on the seat to work in the field.”

The BNP leader also said that discussions are underway with various political parties on forming an election-focused alliance.

In response to a question about giving up seats to like-minded parties, Salahuddin said, “Discussions are still ongoing with those with whom the alliance will be formed. We will ask or share those seats from the alliance, which we hope to win. We are having discussions with the alliance on that issue. They will raise their demands.

When asked whether there were discussions with the National Citizens Party (NCP) on seats, he said, “Political discussions are held with all parties. It is also with the NCP. However, we have not had any seat-based discussions with them.”

Salahuddin said that unity among political parties is necessary to protect democracy. Despite their differences, anti-fascist political parties will remain united on the issue of democracy.

Salahuddin Ahmed further said that even after carrying out the genocide, the Awami League has no remorse, but rather they are conspiring against the country from Delhi. The government should file a case against the Awami League in the ICT Court.

The BNP leader said that BNP has been demanding to bring the Awami League to justice for a long time. However, BNP is not in favor of banning any political party through an executive order. Whatever happens in this regard should be through the judicial process.

Regarding the Awami League, the BNP standing committee member further said that the people rejected the Awami League as a political party on August 5. However, BNP will not decide whether they can participate in the elections or not; the people and the judicial courts will do so.
