Bashundhara retains Challenge Cup title with 10 players
Bashundhara Kings retained the Challenge Cup title. They defeated Mohammedan 4-1 in the final today. Bashundhara‘s Sohel Rana was sent off for a second yellow card after fouling Mohammedan’s Minhaj in the 63rd minute of the match. Mario Gomez’s team won the rest of the game with 10 men.
The match between the two teams at the Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla started 11 minutes after the scheduled time. The delay was mainly due to the unpreparedness of the field. Several supporters of both teams showed up in the gallery to watch the game despite the scorching sun on the holiday. The footballers of Bashundhara and Mohammedan did not disappoint them. Despite the large gap in the results, the country’s top two football clubs, Mohammedan and Bashundhara, presented a competitive match.
Darielton Gomes Nascimento scored a pair of goals for champion Bashundhara. Emmanuel Sunday and Rafael Agust scored once each. Mozaffarov scored Mohammedan’s only goal.
Bashundhara were champions last year in the inaugural edition of this season-defining tournament. The five-time Premier League champions then defeated Mohammedan 2-1. This time too, they won the title by defeating the black and white team.
