Bangladesh’s dominant start, crushing Nepal
Bangladesh got off to a flying start in the SAFF Under-17 Championship. Golam Rabbani Chhota’s team crushed Nepal 4-0.
Bangladesh got a corner in the first minute of the match at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo. A great opportunity to score came in the fifth minute. But captain Nazmul Huda Faisal failed to put a shot on target even at the empty post. Apu Rahman got a similar ball in the box in the sixth minute. However, the Nepal goalkeeper gloved the ball before it could reach it.
Bangladesh had to wait 30 minutes for its first goal. Faisal’s corner was fisted, but the Nepal goalkeeper could not clear the danger. Sabbir Islam scored a bullet-speed shot before the ball hit the ground.
Bangladesh quickly increased the lead after the break. The net shook twice in the three minutes from 49 to 51. The first came from the feet of Apu Rahman, the other was scored by Mohammad Arif.
Bangladesh also scored the fourth goal in the 65th minute. Mohammad Manik scored the goal to give the team a big victory. Bangladesh will face host Sri Lanka in the second match on September 21. A win will ensure a semi-final spot.
