Desk Report:

Md. Aktaruzzaman Samrat Majhi, the organizing secretary of the student organization Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, has filed a complaint with the police station against several people, including Jatiya Party (JPA) faction chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader, over the attack on a protest march led by Gana Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur in the capital’s Kakrail.

Masud Alam, deputy police commissioner of DMP’s Ramna division, confirmed to Fast Bangla that Md. Aktaruzzaman Samrat Majhi filed the complaint at Ramna Police Station on Tuesday afternoon.

Masud Alam said, “A member of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad has filed a complaint at Ramna Police Station. However, no case has been filed yet. We are discussing the complaint with higher officials and taking action.”

Akhtaruzzaman Samrat claimed that the attackers attacked with sticks, hockey sticks, brickbats and domestic weapons while shouting the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. He himself was seriously injured in the attack. He suffered injuries in various parts of his head and body and received five stitches on his right hand. In addition, at least 20-30 leaders and activists of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and Jubo Odhikar Parishad were injured.

Samrat said that he was first admitted to Islami Bank Hospital in his injured state. Later, he sought treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital and finally at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Samrat said that after recovering somewhat physically, he filed a complaint with Ramna Police Station. He also demanded that the attackers be brought under the law immediately and given exemplary punishment. The complaint states that on the evening of August 29, after a peaceful rally in front of the Al-Razi Complex in Paltan, a protest march was held under the leadership of former VP of DUCSU Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gana Odhikar Parishad. When the procession moved towards the Jatiya Party’s Kakrail office, a planned attack was carried out.

The charge sheet names a total of 18 people, including Jatiya Party (JPA) faction chairman GM Quader, Secretary General Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary, and 100-150 other unidentified attackers.
