A wild elephant died in an electric trap in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. On Wednesday, locals saw the elephant lying dead next to a paddy field in the Dochhari area of the upazila and informed the Forest Department. Later, Forest Department staff reached the spot and rescued the elephant.
On Thursday, Ukhia Range Officer of the Forest Department Abdul Mannan confirmed the authenticity of this information.

The dead male elephant is approximately 35 years old. There are no signs of injury on the elephant’s body. However, it is initially believed that the elephant may have died in an electric trap in the paddy field.

Quoting locals, Range Officer Abdul Mannan told the media that after the elephant was rescued, an autopsy was conducted by a veterinary surgeon led by the Upazila Livestock Officer on Wednesday afternoon.
A hole was dug next to the Dochhari forest and covered with soil. The official said that the real cause of death can be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.
