Chaksu elections: Crowds gather to collect nomination forms on last day

The Election Commission office was seen crowded on the last day of distribution of nomination forms for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CHAKSU) and Hall Parliament elections. Candidates are collecting nomination forms in a festive atmosphere on the last day.

From 9 am today, Tuesday, it was seen that various organizations and independent candidates are gathering in front of the university’s CHAKSU building. Since the morning, the presence of candidates and the movement of supporters has created an election atmosphere on the campus. More than 150 nomination forms were distributed in the Central Parliament from 9 am to 1 pm. In addition, about two hundred nomination forms were distributed in the student and female halls, said Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Monir Uddin.

According to Election Commission sources, the expected number of candidates submitted their nominations on the last day. Security personnel are performing additional duties to manage the crowd until the last time of submission.

Chhatra Dal leaders and activists submitted their nominations separately yesterday. Some leaders and activists have also submitted their nominations today. A leader of the Chhatra Dal, who is aspiring for the top post, said, “We are taking nominations separately now. The panel will be announced soon.”

On the other hand, two or three candidates from Chhatra Shibir were seen taking nominations. It is known that they may take nominations together in the afternoon. Apart from this, leaders and activists of left organizations are collecting nomination forms on their own. It has been confirmed that some panels will be announced today or tomorrow. On behalf of the candidates, their supporters are carrying out campaign activities to announce their panels or personal popularity. A kind of competitive atmosphere can also be seen in this.

According to the schedule, today is the last day for distributing nomination papers. Candidates will submit their nomination papers tomorrow. The initial list of candidates will be published on September 21. Candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers on September 23. Later, the final list will be published on September 25. Voting will be held from 9 am to 4 pm on October 12.
