Nine people, including six former ministers and state ministers, appeared before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in various cases filed over the anti-discrimination student movement. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam took their appearance virtually on Tuesday.
Justice Akram Hossain of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court was present in the court during the appearance. He has been visiting various courts in Dhaka for the past few days.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and former minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak, former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali, former State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs ABM Tajul Islam, former Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hasan, former OC Mazharul Islam and Police Constable Shoaibur Rahman appeared virtually today. Three of them participated in the hearing virtually from Kashimpur Jail and six from the Central Jail.
Deputy Police Commissioner of the Prosecution Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Tarek Zubair gave this information.
He said that the accused were scheduled to appear in various cases of Jatrabari, Paltan, Mirpur and Hatirjheel police stations in the capital. Later, the court took their appearance virtually.
State’s lawyer, Additional PP Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon, said that Justice Akram Hossain was present and saw the virtual appearance. The judge expressed satisfaction after seeing the virtual appearance, the state’s lawyer said.
It is worth noting that considering the security of influential and prominent people who have become accused, arrangements have been made for virtual appearance for some time. Apart from this, court sources said that terrorists are also being taken to appear virtually.
