The Independent Students’ Unity Panel has raised doubts about the authenticity of the results of the recently held Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections and has made three demands, including a re-counting of all votes.
On Monday (September 15), a petition signed by VP candidate Umama Fatima and member candidate Naureen Sultana Toma submitted to DUCSU Chief Returning Officer Mohammad Jasim Uddin. The petition has been accepted by the university administration branch-4.
Suspicion of rigging in DUCSU elections: Umama Fatima demands 3 things including hand counting of votes and release of CCTV footage
The petition states, “We, on behalf of the Independent Student Unity Panel, request that the copies of the voter lists of each center, manual recounting of votes instead of OMR machines, and CCTV footage of voters entering the polling centers be made available to students for the purpose of verifying the electoral transparency of the recently held Dhaka University Central Student Union Election and Hall Parliament Election 2025.”
When asked about this, a returning officer of DUCSU and Hall Parliament Election said that according to the DUCSU constitution, these or related matters are now the jurisdiction of the Vice-Chancellor.
