Flood threat in 12 districts, how many days will it rain – Meteorological Office

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in six divisions including Dhaka due to the influence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. It rained throughout the day today (September 14) across the country. The Meteorological Department said that this rainfall may continue for another five days. As a result, the Meteorological Department has issued flood, waterlogging and landslide warnings in 12 districts of the country.

When asked about this, meteorologist Dr. Omar Faruk told Fast Bangla that heavy rainfall is expected in six divisions except Khulna and Barisal for the next three days. It will continue in Rangpur division in the northern region until September 19.

The Meteorological Department recorded a maximum rainfall of 110 millimeters in Nikli, Kishoreganj in six hours from 6 am to 12 noon today. At the same time, 9 millimeters of rain was recorded in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board (Pawbo) today said that the water level in flood-prone rivers is increasing due to very heavy rain. This may spread to 12 districts.

Paubo said that the water level of the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in Rangpur division may increase and the Teesta and Dudhkumar rivers may cross the danger level. During this time, the low-lying areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Kurigram districts adjacent to these rivers may be flooded.

Meanwhile, the Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigowain, Jadukata, Someshwari, Bhogai-Kangsa rivers in Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions may flow within the warning level. And the low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Mymensingh, Netrokona and Sherpur districts adjacent to these rivers may be temporarily flooded.

In addition, the rivers of Muhuri, Silonia, and Halda in Feni in Chittagong division may flow within the warning limits and the low-lying areas of Feni and Chittagong districts adjacent to the said rivers may be temporarily flooded.

In a special warning, the Meteorological Department said that there is a risk of landslides in some places in the hilly areas of Chittagong division due to very heavy rainfall. It has also been warned that waterlogging may occur in some places in Dhaka and Chittagong metropolis due to heavy rainfall. Currently, the monsoon is active over Bangladesh and is in a moderate state in the north Bay of Bengal.

Due to the increase in rainfall, the temperature across the country may drop by two degrees Celsius. The forecast given until tomorrow, Monday morning, says that light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are likely in most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.

Along with this, moderate to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures across the country may drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius.
