Action to be taken if rural electricity workers do not report to work within 24 hours: Electricity Department
The Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has called upon the officers and employees of 80 Rural Electrification Associations (PBIS) under the Rural Electrification Board (REB) across the country to report to work within the next 24 hours. The Power Division will take legal action against those officers and employees who are absent from work within these 24 hours.
This information was given in a press release signed by Mohammad Shafiullah, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, on behalf of the Power Division on Sunday (September 7).
The notification said, ‘Since uninterrupted power supply is an essential service, obstructing or disrupting the provision of this service is a punishable offense under the Essential Services Act. Efforts are being made to fulfill the demands of the officers and employees of the Rural Electricity Association. The government is sensitive to this issue. Officers and employees engaged in power supply work in rural areas and absent on public holidays have been instructed to join their respective workplaces within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against them.’
Incidentally, the officers and employees of the Rural Electricity Association have announced to go on an indefinite mass holiday from today on four-point demands, including the elimination of job discrimination and an end to harassing measures. The program was announced by Anju Rani Malakar, deputy office secretary of the Rural Electricity Association, at a press conference organized at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Saturday.
