Desk Report:
Ganadhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has returned home after 12 days of physical examination in Singapore.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday evening. He was welcomed by the leaders and activists of the Ganadhikar Parishad and its affiliated organizations.
On the night of August 29, the party leaders and activists claimed that Nur and Ganadhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan, along with at least 50 others, were injured in an attack by law enforcement agencies in front of the party office in Bijoynagar in the capital.
Nur was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital in a seriously injured condition. Later, on the advice of doctors, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11 pm. Nur returned home after 18 days of treatment there. Then, on September 22, he was sent to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for advanced treatment.
Nur told the media at the airport today, “This attack was carried out to target me and us and send a message to others.” So I will tell the leaders of other political parties and the mass uprising movement, if you do not want to read the next serial, whoever is involved in this incident, no matter how powerful the person is, he must be brought to justice. He must be fired. Unfortunately, we can see that the traditional investigation committee has been formed, meetings are going on, but the report is not seeing the light of day.’
He said, ‘We think that as a prerequisite for fair elections, it is important to investigate this incident and take punitive action against those involved. Otherwise, we cannot say that there will be fair elections in the future.
‘How can there be fair elections? If the head of a party is attacked like this, along with its leaders and workers? The president of our Workers’ Rights Council was also attacked in Gazipur. Then, will those who will be given signals in this compromise election, freely campaign, hold processions and meetings like in the Awami League elections? Those who do not give a signal, will be attacked and driven out of the field like this?’
He said, ‘It has been almost 35 days since a judicial inquiry commission was formed. We can see negligence in their activities. We want to remind the current chief advisor and other higher authorities of law enforcement agencies that a shoe was put around the neck of former Election Commissioner Nurul Huda for holding a controversial election. The former Chief Justice, the Imam of Baitul Mukarram has fled the country. Therefore, if this August 29 incident is not brought to justice, many of us, if we are alive, will be humiliated and humiliated on the streets and in the future we will also put a gamcha around their necks.’
Mentioning that the People’s Rights Council is cooperating with the government, the party president said, ‘We have not been benefited by this government. We have not been a part of the government’s share-sharing arrangement. The government has tried to create a situation so far by making a share-sharing arrangement, but that has been seen. But now the country is in chaos over the elections. So if a fair election, the much-awaited election, is not held now, then the country will again face a crisis.’
Noor’s personal physician Sajjad Hossain Russell said that Noor is not yet fully recovered and it will take another six months to recover.
