Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman’s struggle embodies the spirit of Kazi Nazrul: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman have been carrying on their struggle by embodying the spirit of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. He said that he was also the inspiration for national movements and struggles, including the mass uprising.

He said this after paying tribute to the poet at his tomb on the premises of Dhaka University on Wednesday (August 27) on the 49th death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Rizvi said that the main motto for establishing a developed and democratic society is the spirit of Kazi Nazrul Islam. This poet was also the inspiration for national movements and struggles, including the July mass uprising.

Rizvi also said that despite the fall of the authoritarian government, democracy has not yet been established in the country. If free and fair elections are held before Ramadan, the voting rights of the deprived people for 15 years will be established. We have to move forward unitedly to establish a developed and democratic society, as the poet has said. Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have carried on the struggle by capturing his spirit.’
Raising various aspects of the poet’s spirit, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, ‘Kazi Nazrul Islam is the main inspiration for establishing a developed and democratic society. When the nation is disoriented, his writings become ideals. From the anti-British movement to the mass uprising of 24, the poet’s writings have always been relevant.’

The BNP leader said, ‘Kazi Nazrul Islam has been captured in three forms: a poet of humanity, a poet of love and a poet of betrayal. Be it the freedom struggle, the anti-British movement, the mass movement of the 1990s or the recent mass uprising that shook the world, his songs and poems have inspired people and brought them to the streets in every national achievement and struggle. We have come down to the streets singing his songs and reciting his poems. It was his inspiration that enabled me to stand up to the tyranny with courage.’

Also present at the time were Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangsthika Sangstha (JASAS) convener Helal Khan, member secretary Zakir Hossain Rokon, Chhatra Dal vice-president Touhid Awal, joint secretary Raju Ahmed and others.
