Shant surprised by Razzak’s resignation

Desk Report:

Abdur Razzak was on the selection panel for a long time with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu. Razzak resigned from the post of selector today. Razzak has decided to participate in the BCB elections. The star left-arm spinner of Bangladesh will be selected from Category-1 as the councilor of Khulna Divisional Sports Organization.

Hasibul Hasan Shanto, who has just joined the selection panel, confirmed Razzak’s resignation to Ajker newspaper. Shanto expressed surprise at Razzak’s sudden resignation. Because, the three-match T20 series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan is starting from October 2. According to sources, the BCB selectors may give the T20 series team to someone else instead of Liton Das as captain. Despite his sudden resignation, Shanto wished Razzak well for the BCB elections.

The BCB elections will be held on October 6. The form distribution process is underway with this election in mind. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul has collected the nomination form from Dhaka division. Minhaj Uddin Khan has collected the nomination form of Bulbul’s rival for the BCB president’s post, Tamim Iqbal. Nazmul Abedin Fahim has collected the form from Dhaka district along with Bulbul. Asif Rabbani has collected the form from the club category. Rangpur Riders team director Shahnian Tamim, BCB Umpires and Media Committee Chairman Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, former BCB president Faruk Ahmed, and Debrabrat Pal have also collected the nomination form.

Mithu got his councilorship back when the final voter list was published yesterday. He became a councilor from the third division team Vikings Cricket Academy. Earlier, Vikings Cricket Academy was among the 15 clubs that the Election Commission had excluded from the draft list due to the ACC’s investigation. He took the councilorship again from there.

The Bangladesh-Afghanistan series will feature three T20Is on October 2, 3 and 5. The three-match ODI series will begin on October 8. The second and third ODIs will be played on October 11 and 14. The Bangladesh-Afghanistan series will be held in the desert after the Asia Cup. Liton Das may miss the entire Afghan series due to the rib injury he sustained. It is natural for Shanto to be surprised by the news of Razzak’s resignation at that moment, whether he will be the regular T20 captain or not in the Afghan series. Shanto joined the BCB selection panel on September 20.
