It is very difficult to work in a place like Bangladesh: CEC

Desk Report:

The Election Commission will not give any illegal instructions or ask officials to favor anyone in the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in February 2026, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin. He said, “We will definitely give instructions, but no illegal instructions will ever be given. No instructions will be given to favor anyone or on behalf of anyone. Our instructions will be in accordance with the law and rules—to do the right thing correctly.”

The CEC said these things at the Election Officers Conference-2025 at the auditorium of the Election Building in Agargaon on Saturday.

The CEC said that the chief advisor is currently on a visit to the United States. He has been regularly assuring world leaders about holding a fair and historic election in Bangladesh.

He also said, “He can say this because he has full confidence in the Election Commission. We must maintain this confidence and trust. Whatever happened in the past, now we have to prove that we can do it. There is no chance of this being an exception.’

The CEC does not expect any officer to work on behalf of anyone in the election. He said, ‘I work with a sense of responsibility from the position of the head of the family. It is very difficult to work in a place like Bangladesh. We are working on many challenges that we have seen and unseen. I am a positive person. I always see the glass as half full.’

At this time, the CEC took an oath from the officers to work impartially by raising their hands and taking Allah as a witness.

Addressing the EC officers, the CEC said, ‘You will not work for anyone. Do not work for any party. The election is taking place in a special situation. We have to work through special management. We will protect our oath on your role.’

The Election Officers Conference-2025 organized by the Bangladesh Election Commission Officers Association was presided over by the association’s convener, Mohammad Monir Hossain. Four election commissioners, the EC’s senior secretary and EC officers were present at the time.
